a moniker for the man

Sam and I have been emailing each other lists of names we like and vetoing here and there. This is the most recent list I'm sending him, compiled from all the emails, of names neither of us has said NO to (yet).

Feel free to leave your most ruthless playground taunts for any of these names so we know what we're getting into.

In no particular order:

Ezra
Abraham
Liam
Logan
Owen
Jackson
Simon
Noah
Hyrum
Isaiah
Jason
Levi
Ian
Jonah
Jared
Asher

A few names we really like but wouldn't use as a first name (aka: middle name possibilities):

Ethan
Everett
Malachi
Jonathan*
David*
Jacob*
Benjamin*
Joseph*

*These are names of our siblings. I'm OK with using them as first names and really like some of them, but Sam is not so keen. I agree for this baby, especially since Anna has an Aunt Anna and that side of the family might revolt if we do it again.

1/21/10--After meeting an Ash (for Ashraf, not Ashley) at work, Sam was reminded of the name Asher and has decided it's grown on him, so it's been bumped up from middle name status to a first name option.

Names that would get made fun of for being scriptural:
Ezra
Abraham
Noah
Hyrum
Isaiah
Jason
Ian
Jonah
Jared

Names that would be made fun of for being pants:
Levi

Names that would be made fun of for being entertainers:
Simon
Liam
Jackson

That leaves only one name, which of course would be made fun of for being Wolverine.

You just have to pick your poison!

The world needs more Simons.

Ian is scriptural? Simon is surely more scriptural than Ian. And Levi is surely more scriptural than Jason. Maybe I just don't know the scriptures as well as I should.

Ian is the scottish form of John. I'm sure my brother knows Simon and Levi are scriptural but is trying to convey all the possible ways my child might be teased mercilessly. As for Jason, I'm stumped.

I've always like Jared and Jackson (plus I LOVE Jack), but I'm sure whichever name you pick will be perfect :-)...you have lots of good options.

ARE YOU ASKING FOR A CHALLENGE!?!?!

Yes, I will make fun of your baby names.

Ezra - do you want everyone calling him E.Z.? That could be a fun gangsta name to go by.

Jason - Jay gay? We got it for our last name, so I guess it would be a family tradition.

Liam - Easy to mispronounce "Lye-am"

Asher - Might be easy for him to mispronounce the "sh" as an "s" when he's little.

I will give you the advice my mother gave me: you have to yell the name out the back door.EEEzra. . .time for dinner. Of course people don't send their children out to play by themselves as much as they used to. and most kids probably get called on their cell phones now. But, I have hope your children will be out in the back playing in the dirt- so you better try calling those names out the back door!

I just really don't like Liam. I don't know why.

Ok, you can't use Liam b/c that's what we're going to name our boy if we ever have one. If Anna had been a boy, that's what her name would have been. So, we can't both have an Anna and a Liam! Ok, really we can. I love that name and it's a family name for me. So my vote goes to LIAM!!!!

I love lots of them!!! We thought of Noah and Logan for ourselves, but will just be having girls so a nephew would be great! I also really really like Liam! (Simon, Jackson and Ian are my least faves for no great reason!)

Naming a baby is so tough, don't you think? We are really struggling this time where as Isabelle was a no-brainer for us last time.

Ezra Cosby-- I like Ezra but it's tricky together.
Abraham Cosby-- A mouthful. Abe? Nope.
Noah Cosby-- I like that one.
Hyrum Cosby-- It works.
Isaiah Cosby-- Another mouthful. Two syllables work better.
Jason Cosby-- Sure.
Ian Cosby-- I like that, and I normally don't even like the name Ian.
Jonah Cosby-- It's alright. "Anna and Jonah" is fun.
Jared Cosby-- What is it about this one? Is it weak?
Levi Cosby-- Maybe.
Simon Cosby-- Again, maybe. I'm thinking chipmunks.
Liam Cosby-- I knew a Liam. Dang-- too hard to overcome the association-- to me it's a weak kid's name.
Jackson Cosby-- When I think "Jack Cosby," I love it. I also love "Anna and Jack." (It works well in full form, too.) Maybe it's because it reminds me of my dear "Marc Deru" where there's a little skip between names.

I'm going off of D's list here-- which is the wolverine? I can't remember.

That would be Logan.

D and Heather's big brother Mike is channeling Logan at the moment: great sideburns and really wide hair.

Takes courage to do a Hugh Jackman impression while visiting Australia!
